Archiving

POLICY ON ARCHIVING AND LONG-TERM PRESERVATION IN OPEN ACCESS

This Policy defines the measures taken by the Editorial Office to guarantee permanent access to scientific publications, protect them from technical failures, and ensure their transfer to independent digital archives.

1. Repositories and Digital Archives

The journal ensures multi-level preservation of content in the following systems:

  • Institutional repository: All published articles are made immediately available in open access on the official website of the journal and, additionally, in the repository of the publishing institution, if the author is affiliated with that institution and has independently deposited the publication file.
  • National repositories: Full-text articles in PDF format, together with metadata, are permanently transferred to the holdings of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine for state archival preservation.
  • International databases: Metadata and links to full texts are exported to scientometric databases (e.g., CrossRef, Google Scholar, DOAJ), thereby providing additional access points to the materials.

2. Technical Means of Ensuring Integrity (LOCKSS)

For distributed preservation and automatic data recovery, the journal uses the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system:

  • Distributed archiving: The LOCKSS system makes it possible to create identical copies of the journal in numerous libraries and information centers around the world.
  • Automatic recovery: In the event of data corruption or loss on one of the servers, the LOCKSS system automatically detects discrepancies and restores the information from other nodes in the network, thereby guaranteeing the integrity of the scholarly record.

3. Guarantees of Long-Term Accessibility

  • Persistent identifiers (DOI): Each article is assigned a unique DOI, which ensures a permanent and active link to the full text, even if the journal’s main website changes its address.
  • Protection against journal discontinuation: In the unlikely event of the journal ceasing operations, access to the archives will be maintained through the network of libraries participating in the LOCKSS project and through national library holdings.

4. Self-Archiving Policy

Authors are permitted and encouraged to post the published version of their article in:

  • their own professional profiles (e.g., ResearchGate, Academia.edu);
  • the institutional repositories of their universities;
  • subject-specific repositories relevant to the field of research. In such cases, it is mandatory to provide a link to the original article page on the journal’s website and its DOI.
