Aims and Scope

Educational Challenges is a peer-reviewed international academic journal publishing original research and scholarly review articles on contemporary developments in education. The journal explores how educational systems, institutions, teachers, and learners respond to changing social, technological, cultural, and institutional conditions, and how these changes reshape teaching, learning, professional practice, and educational policy.

The journal brings together research from different areas of education united by a common interest in educational change and the challenges it creates for teaching, learning, professional practice, and educational development.

We particularly welcome theoretically informed and empirically grounded studies that examine emerging practices, identify challenges and opportunities, evaluate educational interventions, or offer new perspectives on how education can respond to changing contexts.

The journal welcomes research on teaching and learning processes, curriculum and pedagogy, learner engagement and development, innovative teaching approaches, and new models of educational practice.

This area also includes initial and continuing teacher education, professional development, mentoring and coaching, teacher competence, professional identity, and the changing roles of teachers and university faculty in contemporary education.

Particular interest is given to research examining how pedagogical practices and teacher preparation evolve in response to new educational demands, technologies, learner needs, and changing professional environments.

The journal publishes research on foreign and additional language teaching and learning, with particular attention to English language education, English for Specific and Academic Purposes (ESP/EAP), language teacher education, multilingualism, literacy development, and language assessment.

We welcome studies that investigate new approaches to language learning, the development of communicative and literacy competences, the integration of digital and AI-assisted technologies, and the ways in which linguistic and cultural diversity shapes educational practice.

The journal welcomes research examining the role of digital technologies in transforming teaching, learning, and educational institutions. Topics include e-learning, blended and distance education, mobile learning, technology-enhanced learning environments, digital literacy, artificial intelligence, and AI-supported educational practices.

Of particular interest are studies that move beyond describing the use of technology and critically examine its educational value, including its effects on learning processes, learner autonomy, engagement, cognitive processes, assessment, teacher roles, and institutional development.

The journal addresses educational inclusion as both a pedagogical and systemic challenge. This area includes research on inclusive and special education, accessibility, diverse and vulnerable learners, participation and equity, inclusive teaching practices, and the preparation of teachers to work in diverse educational settings.

The journal particularly welcomes research exploring how educational institutions and educators can respond to differences in learners’ abilities, backgrounds, languages, social circumstances, and educational needs while promoting meaningful participation and equitable learning opportunities.

The journal publishes research on assessment and evaluation of learning and teaching, educational measurement, examination practices, feedback, learning outcomes, and quality assurance. Studies may address assessment practices at classroom, programme, institutional, or system level.

We are particularly interested in research that examines assessment as an integral part of teaching and learning and explores evidence-based approaches to improving educational quality, transparency, fairness, and learning outcomes.

Educational Challenges recognises that educational change often takes place under conditions of uncertainty, disruption, or crisis. This area includes research on education during armed conflict and other crises, displacement and migration, institutional resilience, educational safety and continuity, post-conflict recovery, and the reconstruction and transformation of education systems.

More broadly, the journal welcomes research on how education responds to significant social, cultural, economic, technological, environmental, and geopolitical changes and how educational institutions develop resilience and new forms of practice in challenging circumstances.

The journal particularly encourages international, comparative, cross-cultural, and interdisciplinary research that contributes to broader understanding of contemporary educational challenges.

Research focused on a particular country, institution, or educational system is welcome when it offers findings, theoretical insights, methodological contributions, or practical implications that extend beyond the immediate local context.

The journal also welcomes well-argued contributions addressing other areas of education when they engage meaningfully with the journal’s focus on educational change, innovation, challenges, and responses.
